August the most dangerous month for motorists
The chance of dying behind the wheel in the U.S. is the highest in August, according to statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Institute for Highway Safety. Statistics from 1994 to 2009 show that more than 1.09 car accident deaths occur per 100 million miles driven this month.
An average of 93 people die each day due to car accidents, which is about one death every 16 minutes. Of the 25 most dangerous days of the year to drive, 7 are in the month of August. The spokesman for the Institute for Highway Safety says that the reason for the increased chance of dying in a car accident in August is because more people drive more miles this month than in any other.
