Man receives face transplant after construction accident
A 25 year-old man from Fort Worth has received the most complete face transplant in medical history. He was injured at his job at a construction site when his boom lift hit a power supply. His face was severely burned, which has left him permanently blind. After three months in a coma, 22 surgeries, and a 15 hour transplant operation, the man has most of his face reconstructed.
The surgery is considered the most complete face transplant because doctors used a donor’s complete face, along with bone tissue from the nose. The operation replaced the victim’s facial muscles, skin, lips, and nose.
