Fatal fiery collision on Highway 61

A fiery truck accident on Highway 61 has left one motorist dead. The driver of a Mini Cooper that was rear-ended by an SUV and then pushed into the path of a semi trailer has been pronounced dead. Last week around 1pm, the motorist in the Mini Cooper was slowing down to turn near Split Rock River when a tailgating SUV was unable to stop.

According to Minnesota State Patrol, the Mini Cooper swerved and crossed into the southbound lane. The small car and the semi trailer immediately burst in flames on impact. The 54 year-old truck driver was released from Lake View Memorial Hospital. The condition is unknown for the 54 year-old driver of the SUV. His 53 year-old passenger was treated and released from the hospital.
