Hundreds of farmers in the U.S. are injured everyday
More than 200 farmers in the United States sustain work-related injuries everyday, some of which lead to permanent disability, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) .
In the data provided by the CDC, an estimated 243 farmers in the U.S. suffered an injury that caused them to miss work every day. Moreover, at least five percent of these injured workers suffered permanent disability.
Reports show that heavy equipment and huge bins on agricultural sites are the usual cause of injuries. University of Minnesota Extension Service’s Dan Martens stressed the need for farmers to implement extra precautionary measures to avoid work-related accidents in the field.
Unfortunately, sustaining injuries in the workplace usually results in lost wages and expensive medical bills. However, many injured workers are able to get workers’ compensation insurance, which can help alleviate these expenses.
