Minneapolis school board to get workers’ compensation coverage

The Minneapolis school board has approved covering itself with workers’ compensation, an article by the Star Tribune reported on May 16.

Fortunately, there will be no additional costs when adding coverage to the nine board members.

According to Policy Committee chair Josh Reimnitz, no board member has ever been hurt on the job, but coverage will definitely give members peace of mind. Board members do not do hard labor or get involved in student behavior issues, so it is unlikely that anyone will get hurt.

Chief district lawyer Steve Liss mentioned that workers’ comp coverage typically covers medical costs, continuing income-replacement payments, and compensation for the impairment to whatever body part was involved.
