Abuse rampant in US poultry industry

A recent report of a global organization revealed that people in the U.S. are at high risk of experiencing various hazards while working in the poultry industry, a November 5 article of People’s World reported.

A report from Oxfam America found that employees of poultry production companies are at a higher risk of suffering injuries in their work environment. The report also found that workers in the poultry industry are only earning minimal salaries in exchange for their work. The report, which was produced with the help of a worker center in Minnesota and other related groups, gathered data from conducting worker interviews and from studying existing articles on the conditions that are faced everyday by poultry workers. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released a new program to improve poultry workers’ conditions days after Oxfam released their report.
