Rodney King was pronounced dead Sunday morning after he was found at the bottom of his swimming pool at his Rialto, California home. Authorities do not believe foul play was involved in his death. He was 47.
King was found by his fiancee, who called 911. He was pronounced dead at the hospital an hour later. Investigators at this time are treating his death as an accidental drowning and do not believe alcohol, drugs, or suicide were factors.
The video recording of King’s beating in 1991, when he was 25, sparked race riots all over the country. The Los Angeles race riots resulted in 55 deaths, 2000 people injured, and more than $1 billion in damages, according to the Chicago Tribune.
